Newspaper clipping from True Magazine, dated May 25, 1943. The clipping derives from a question-and-answer column entitled "Man to Man," by Tex O'Rourke. The question asks "Why do they say 'Hey Rube' in circus lingo?" The answer states, "Years ago, when Walter Main's dad ran the big show, he had a bodyguard named Reuben Miller, so they tell me. In those days a lot fight, or 'clem,' was almost an everyday occurrence. It got so someone was always hollering 'Hey Rube.' The name stuck." |
