This article reports that the former Tulsa Chief of Police John A. Gustafson will face charges in a trial set for July 11, 1921. A grand jury convened in June 1921 to investigate the Tulsa Race Massacre returned five indictments against Gustafson. The article lists the five counts as follows: failure to enforce the liquor laws, failure to close houses of prostitution, failure to enforce the gun-carrying law, failure to do his full duty in suppressing the race riot. and a conspiracy charge with detectives Bay Ward and Roy Meachem to steal automobiles and collect rewards. |
