Green paper card used for the identification of African Americans as mandated by Tulsa Police Commissioner James M. Adkinson on June 8, 1921, one week after the Tulsa Race Massacre. The police order mandated all African Americans to wear or carry a green identification card while on city streets. Policemen were authorized to arrest any African American who could not produce a green identification card. The greed card order continued in effect until July 7, 1921. This card measures 4" x 3." The front of the card contains blank fields for the following information: name, sex, age, where living, employed by, address, phone, kind of work, employer's signature, card approved by, and date. |
