Newspaper clipping from the Tulsa Daily World published June 30, 1921 and entitled "Receive Report On Negro Relief; Willows Outlines Work of Red Cross in Devastated District; Fixed Policy Needed; Fields Reads Report to Reconstruction Committee; Need More Money." This article reports that American Red Cross Relief Director Maurice Willows prepared a report concerning the Red Cross's efforts following the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and that local Red Cross supervisor Clark Fields read the report at a meeting of the city's Reconstruction Committee on June 29, 1921. Willows reported that $25,000 has been paid in relief expenditures and that a total of $40,000 will be needed. The local Red Cross treasury totals $2,000 at the current time. Willows also reported that 531 individuals were given first aid treatment and that the Red Cross met the emergency needs of more than 1,600 families, aggregating 6,450 people. Willows states that currently about 3,500 people are still without adequate housing. The article ends with a list of Red Cross expenditures. |
