Newspaper clipping from the Tulsa Daily World published June 11, 1921, and entitled "Arrest Negro Idlers; Police Began Friday Night to Enforce 'Work of [sic] Jail' Order by Mayor; Take 30." This article reports upon the enforcement by the Tulsa Police Department of a new order issued by Tulsa Mayor Thaddeus Daniel Evans requiring the police to arrest all unemployed African Americans found on Tulsa streets regardless of producing a green identification card. The mayor issued the order in response to some African Americans allowing others to use their green identification cards. The article states that the police arrested thirty African Americans on Friday evening, June 10, 1921 and transported them to the detention camp at the fairgrounds. |
