White paper tag used as a refugee identification card by the American Red Cross following the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. While on city streets, African Americans were required to wear or carry identification cards. The tag measures 9" x 2.6875." The front of the card contains blank fields for the following information: railroad transportation, city transportation, place employed, place sheltered, bed and bedding, medical aid, provisions issued, and clothing furnished. The back of the tag is a police protection card to be approved by Clark Field, the chairman of the local American Red Cross. |
