Description |
Color, 35 mm, roll film negative showing three informal headshots of Ross Swimmer. Swimmer, who received both his Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Oklahoma, was principal chief of the Cherokee Nation from 1975 to 1985. In 1985 he was appointed Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs for the U.S. Department of the Interior, a position he held until 1989. From 2003 to 2009 he served as Special Trustee for American Indians at the same federal Department. |
