Description |
Black & white, 35 mm, roll film negative containing three images of a ballot recount for the 1983 election for Cherokee principal chief between incumbent Principal Chief Ross O. Swimmer and Deputy Chief Richard Perry Wheeler. The recount was held June 29, 1983. The first two images show officials removing ballots from a container. The third image shows Cherokee Principal Chief Ross O. Swimmer. The election was held June 18, 1983. Swimmer received 5,711 votes, Wheeler received 5,266, and a third candidate, Kennie Diffee, received 348. The recount, performed in a Muskogee County courtroom, confirmed Swimmer as the winner of a third term as chief. |
