Description |
Sepia-toned photograph measuring 10" x 8" and depicting a screened porch of the American Red Cross hospital established on the campus of the Booker T. Washington High School at 502 North Frankfort Avenue following the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. This photograph shows a Red Cross nurse holding an African American baby who was born in the mother's ward. Another woman in dark clothing sits nearby. Two men are pictured near the porch screen. The man leaning against the porch railing is Red Cross Director Maurice Willows. The other gentlemen in the photo is possibly Clark Field the director of the local Red Cross chapter. A calendar hangs on the far wall dating this photograph to June 1921. The back of the photograph contains the photographer's stamp. Photographer Gifford I. Talmage's studio was located in the Robinson Building at 519 West Fourth Street. |
