Color, 35 mm, roll film negative containing three images of Perry Wheeler talking with prosective voters at a rally preceding the Cherokee Nation's 1987 election for principal chief in Tahlequah, OK. Wheeler was one of four candidates for the post. He lost to Wilma Mankiller in a July run-off, the first time a woman was elected as principal chief of a major American tribe. She had previously been appointed to the position. |
