Description |
Reproduction, black & white photograph measuring 5" x 4.5" and depicting Bethel Union School, located in District 4, Tulsa County, OK, on what became the northeast corner of the intersection of South Lewis Avenue and 51st Street in Tulsa, OK. The image shows the students standing in front of a clapboard school building, circa 1919. The school existed in the community of Bethel as early as 1906. In September 1914, a new two-room building was completed. In June 1916, the school building was damaged badly when a wagon carrying nitroglycerin to a nearby oilfield exploded. In 1916, the school board approved the construction of a two-room brick building with basement to open for the fall term of 1916. Between the years 1944 and 1946, the school changed its name to Paul Revere Elementary School. The school closed in 1972. |
