He was born July 11, 1888 in Hopkins County, TX to Elijah and Ellen (Stribling) Holderness. He married Fanciel J. Martin on November 14, 1913 in Rogers County, OK. As early as 1916, the couple lived in Tulsa, where Lynn worked as a porter at the Bohnefeld Cleaning & Hat Works at 314 S. Cincinnati Avenue. He gave his life savings to pay off the mortgage on the old First Baptist Church. He extended credit to hundreds of people in the depression years. He was a charter member of the YMCA and sponsored ball teams, camping trips and paid for many boys who could not otherwise have joined. Lynn H. Holderness died September 30, 1966 in Tulsa, OK. |
