Reproduction, black & white photograph measuring 10" x 8" and depicting the northeast corner of the intersection of South Main Street and 2nd Street in Tulsa, OK, circa 1925. National Bank of Commerce is visible on the corner at 125 South Main Street. The Bank of Commerce began in 1904 as a state-chartered bank with the following officers: T. E. Smiley, president; James Hugh McBirney, cashier; and Samuel Pendleton McBirney, assistant cashier. In 1911, the bank relinquished its state charger for a national charter. The bank was renamed National Bank of Commerce at that time. By then the following individuals were officers: James Hugh McBirney, president; Lee Clinton, vice-president; Samuel Pendleton McBirney, cashier; and Lea McBirney, assistant cashier. In 1922, construction began on a new bank building located at 10 East 3rd Street. The taller building in the background is Hotel Boswell, located at 123 South Main Street. |
