Black & white sheet film negative measuring 2.5" x 3.5" and depicting two unidentified World War I servicemen standing on the steps of the War Stamps Savings Bank, located at 401 S. Main Street, Tulsa, OK. The solider is wounded and stands on crutches. The sailor wears a bag around his neck. The first War Savings Stamp bank in the United States opened in Tulsa on January 9, 1918 in the old Planters' National Bank Building at the corner of 2nd Street and South Main Street. On July 12, 1918, the War Savings Stamp Bank moved to a new building constructed especially for the bank, located at 401 S. Main Street. The building also served as a pay station for the American Red Cross, YMCA, and other war funds. |
