Description |
Black & white, 35 mm, roll film negative containing three images of a number of officials of the Muskogee County Election Board delivering ballot boxes to a Muskogee courtroom for a vote recount during the 1983 election for Cherokee principal chief between incumbent Principal Chief Ross O. Swimmer and Deputy Chief Richard Perry Wheeler. The election was held June 18, 1983. Swimmer received 5,711 votes, Wheeler received 5,266, and a third candidate, Kennie Diffee, received 348. The recount confirmed Swimmer as the winner of a third term as chief. |
