Description |
Black & white, 35 mm, roll film negative containing three close-up images of Wathene Young. Young, a Cherokee born in1942, was one of the first non-African American teachers to teach at Booker T. Washington High School before students were integrated. In 1972, she became the first director of Indian Education for the Tulsa Public Schools. She was the founder of the National Indian Youth Leadership Program and of the American Indian Resource Center Inc. where she served as executive director from 1983 to 2015. |
