Black photograph measuring 3.5" x 5" and depicting an unidentified World War I serviceman in uniform and an unidentified woman standing on the steps of the War Savings Stamps Bank in Tulsa, OK. They stand next to a billboard announcing various war efforts. The first War Savings Stamp bank in the United States opened in Tulsa on January 9, 1918 in the old Planters' National Bank Building at the corner of 2nd Street and South Main Street. On July 12, 1918, the War Savings Stamp Bank moved to a new building constructed especially for the bank, located at 401 S. Main Street. The building also served as a pay station for the American Red Cross, YMCA, and other war funds. |
