Description |
Black & white sheet film negative measuring 4" x 5" and depicting the front door of Borden's Cafeteria, located at 2180 South Sheridan Road in Tulsa, OK. The restaurant opened in November 1954 as Ware's Cafeteria, owned by Stewart B. Ware. In March 1955, the restaurant sold to the Borden's restaurant chain. The cafeteria had a seating capacity of 550 people, making it one of the largest in the state of Oklahoma at that time. Brothers Richard F. "Dick" Borden and Leroy R. Borden opened their first restaurant in Tulsa on June 24, 1935 in a building measuring eight feet by twelve feet located at 707 South Cincinnati Avenue. They called this first restaurant F & F Lunch. In later years, the brothers operated a suscessful chain of restaurants in Tulsa named Borden's Cafe, Borden's Grill, Borden's Restaurant, and Borden's Cafeteria. These locations included the following: 207 North Denver Avenue, 617 South Main Street, 518 South Boston Avenue, 305 South Boston Avenue, 101 East 3rd Street, 2315 East Admiral, 2615 East 11th Street, 1107 South Harvard Avenue, 3115 South Harvard Avenue, and 2180 South Sheridan Road. |
