Black & white photograph measuring 4.375" x 2.5" and depicting numerous tents erected by the American Red Cross for homeless African Americans following the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Crawford Wheeler, a reporter with the Tulsa Tribune newspaper, captured this image. The Booker T. Washington High School building, located on the northwest corner of East Haskell Street and Exeter Place, is visible in the background. The address of the high school later changed to 502 North Frankfort Avenue. The American Red Cross used the high school building as a relief station and hospital. A man and woman are visible in the automobile parked in the road. |
