Black and white photograph measuring 8" x 10" and depicting the Beacon Life Building, located at 406 South Boulder Avenue in Tulsa, OK. J. M. Gillette financed the construction of the earliest portion of this building, known as the Commercial Building. It was completed in 1923 at a cost of approximately $400,000. The Commercial Building contained 140 office rooms. In 1927, a south addition to the building was completed, as designed by architect E. W. Saunders. Upon completion of the addition, the building was renamed the Tulsa Trust Building. In 1930, the name of the building changed yet again to the Beacon Life Building, which served as the headquarters for the Tulsa insurance firm of Beacon Life Insurance Company. At the time of this image, the Fourth National Bank was located in the Beacon Life Building. The bank's sign is visible on the corner of the building. The Mayo Hotel is visible in the background. |
