Description |
Black and white photograph measuring 10" x 8" of the west side of the street located at 120 North Greenwood Avenue following the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. The photograph shows a man digging through the rubble. In the background, the painted sign for the Dixie Theatre is visible along with an advertisement for the 1920 silent film "The Broken Gate" starring Bessie Barriscale. William Redfern owned the theater. The front of the photograph contains a printed caption stating, "Tulsa Negro Uprising. West Side of Greenwood - Theatre Building Occupied by "Tulsa Star"." The photograph contains a stamp showing that this photograph was used as on exhibit in a legal proceeding (Exhibit 7, Case No. 16013). |
