Black and white, 35 mm, roll film negative containing two images of Cherokee Principal Chief Ross O. Swimmer. Born in 1943 in Oklahoma City, OK, Swimmer became chief in 1975 and served in that capacity until 1985. From 1985 to 1989, he served as Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. From 2003 to 2009, he served as Special Trustee for American Indians with the U.S. Department of Interior. |
