Description |
Sepia-toned, panoramic photograph measuring 40" x 8" of an area of the Greenwood District following the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Photographer Gifford I. Talmage captured this image by taking four separate photographs and piecing them together with fabric to create this panoramic view. The photograph depicts an unidentified area of North Tulsa. At the middle left, a brick school or church building is visible. The photograph shows the remains of many burned homes. Many newly constructed wood-frame homes are visible, along with many tents erected by the American Red Cross for displaced African Americans. At the far right, a railroad track and tank cars are visible. |
