Description |
Black & white, 35 mm, roll film negative containing three images of the 32nd annual Tulsa Powwow, held July 14-17, 1983 at Mohawk Park in Tulsa, OK. The first two images show an unidentified dancer. The third image shows a young, female dancer and spectators. Members of sixty-four tribes participated, some of which included the following dancers and singers: James Reeder, head feather; John Norman, head straight; Yogi Bread, head traditional; Rena Rose Youngbear, head lady; Jack Anquoe, head singer; Leonard Cozad, Jr., head gourd dance singer; and Marva Windyboy, head Northern traditional. Keepers of the drums included Warny Anquoe, Neall Profabitty, and Robert Anquoe. Kiowa Indian Kenneth Anquoe (1920-1989) founded the annual event. The Tulsa Powwow began in 1951 at Lakeview Park at 3829 North Columbia Avenue in Tulsa. By the 1990s, the powwow grew to a four-day event at Mohawk Park which included dancing, arts, and crafts. |
