Description |
Color photographic print measuring 3.5" x 4.25" and depicting renovation work at Moton Memorial Hospital, located at 603 East Pine Street, Tulsa, OK. Following the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, the American Red Cross built the wood-frame Maurice Willows Hospital, located at 324 North Hartford Avenue to assist African Americans affected by the destruction. In 1932, the City of Tulsa replaced the wood-frame hospital, with a new building located at the corner of Pine Street and North Greenwood Avenue (603 East Pine Street). Later, in 1941, the hospital was renamed after African American Robert Russa Moton. In 1983, the hospital was renamed Morton Comprehensive Health Service in honor of doctor W. A. Morton, a physician with a distinguished record of served at Moton Memorial Hospital. Russell L. Magee & Associates, Architects, a firm of Tulsa, OK, designed one of the remodels circa 1967-1972. In 2006, the hospital moved to 1334 North Lansing Avenue, Tulsa, OK. |
