Description |
Framed, watercolor painting under glass depicting a Native American man in headdress riding a horse. Tulsa artist Lillian Mae Polkwitz created the drawing and signed it at the lower right corner. The lower left corner contains her title for the work "The Peace Maker." The image measures 11.25" x 17.375" The frame measures 16.5" x 22.5." Lillian Mae Polkwitz was born February 23, 1910 in Tulsa, OK, to parents Elmer Robert Polkwitz (1885 - ?) and Martha Ellen "Mattie" Mobbs Polkwitz. In 1936, at the age of twenty-six, Lillian Polkwitz entered several of her works of art into a contest sponsored by the Tulsa Art Association Exhibition of Oklahoma Artists. The pieces were exhibited in the WPA - Tulsa Art Association Gallery in the public library at Tulsa. At the time of this art show, Polkwitz worked as a waitress and lived at 403 North Maybelle Avenue in Tulsa. |
