Art Deco, alarm clock manufactured by Westclox of La Salle, IL, circa 1939. The clock measures 4 inches in height and 6 inches in width. The item consists of a square, chrome base and two, vertical, chrome supports with red accents. The vertical supports hold a pane of yellow glass, into which the clock face is mounted. The back of the clock movement contains the embossed name "Leland," indicating that the alarm clock contains a Leland mechanism. The back also contains the embossed patent number 1848520. This patent number was issued March 8, 1932 to William Barton Eddison of Ardsley on Hudson, NY, assignor to Western Clock Company "Westclox" of Peru, IL. The patent covers a movement checking machine, likely included in the clock mechanism. The back of the clock also contains a small etched identification number "102799MC." This clock was manufactured between October 1939 and July 1942. |
