Metal button advertising The Church Studio, located at 304 S Trenton Ave, Tulsa, OK. The button is from the Leon Lifer Shindig, a concert held in honor of Leon Russell's 80th birthday. The button is black with white text that says, "Leon Lifer Shindig at The Church Studio". The button also contains a silhouette image of the church building and a yellow, orange, and red gradient behind the church. The button measures 2.25" in diameter. The Church Studio was originally built in 1915 as Grace M.E. Church. In 1972, the church was purchased by musician and songwriter, Leon Russell, who turned it into a recording studio and home office to his record label, Shelter Records. Russell was born in Lawton, OK and attended Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, OK. The property was later purchased and restored by Tulsan Teresa Knox and reopened on March 1, 2022 as a recording studio, audio engineering school, event venue, archive, and tourist attraction. The Church Studio is listed on the National Register of Historic places for its significance to music history and the Tulsa Sound. |
