Description |
Ornate, wood-carved floor lamp from the Ritz Theatre, opened in May 1926 at 18 West 4th Street in Tulsa, OK. The lamp measures 79 inches in height, and the base measures 18 inches in width at the widest point. The lamp consists of a ornately carved hexagon-shaped globe with six glass panes each measuring 2 inches in width and 6 inches in length. The lamp's stem is covered in red velvet. The base is also composed of ornately carved wood with three sides. The wooden carvings contain paint in vivid colors of gold, red, green, and yellow. The lamp contains one socket for an electrical light bulb and a short electrical cord at the bottom. This floor lamp was part of the ornate furnishings of the Ritz Theatre, opened in May 1926 at 18 West 4th Street in Tulsa, OK. Tulsans often considered the Ritz as the grandest of the downtown theaters. A photograph on page 44 of the book "Tulsa Movie Theaters" published by the Tulsa Historical Society & Museum shows an identical floor lamp in the Ritz interior. Lamps identical, or very similar, to these once adorned the grand staircase in the Samuel Rabinowitz Travis Mansion. |
